In a an age when inspirational movie does not necessarily translate into quality film, it’s refreshing to come across an offering like Unconditional. With top notch production, high caliber acting, and an inspiring story that isn’t preachy, the film matches up to its worthy contemporaries October Baby and What If . . . .
Sam Crawford (played by Lynn Collins) is a woman with a storybook life and a loving husband, blooming career as a children’s book writer, and a farm full of the animals she loves. But when her husband is murdered in a senseless robbery, Sam’s world is shattered. Soon she no longer wants to live. But God has a way of reaching us even in our darkest moments. For Sam it’s in a chance encounter with two kids who re-connect her a childhood friend, Joe Bradford (Michael Ealy). Events are quickly set in motion that could change the lives of not only Sam and Joe, but the children of a whole community.
Based on the true story of “Papa” Joe Bradford. A man who has made it his mission to share hope and love with underprivileged children, Bradford is the founder of non profit Elijah’s Heart and was a producer for the film. The talented supporting cast includes Bruce McGill as the detective investigating the death of Sam’s husband Billy (played by Diego Klattenhoff in flashbacks) but also introduces adorable Gabriella Phillips who was discovered during a casting call.
Unconditional might not be unpredictable,
but there are enough twists and turns that you probably won’t guess exactly how it ends. But
even if you do, its poignant message of God’s love enfolding us during
the times when we hurt most is something all of us need to hear. Bravo,
Harbinger Media on creating such a first rate movie with your debut feature
