"...a delight to read and will keep you up nights because you won’t want to put it down."
High-maintenance, low-carb Californians meet down-to-earth mashed potatoes and gravy small-town Texans
Lauren Eldridge never planned to return to Daily, Texas after the horrible events that happened there. But her father is in trouble and needs her help. Reluctantly, she agrees. An expert horse trainer, she returns to her hometown to get a skittish race horse ready to perform in a movie that her father and a close friend is helping promote. But in Daily, she continually faces her past and finds the desire to flee the small community and it’s well-meaning busy-bodies nearly overpowering.
Screenwriter Nate Heath wants nothing to do with The Horseman script that his best friend, Justin Shay, is forcing on him. The script is a disaster and has no potential, but for some reason, Justin is determined it’s the next great hit. Nate reluctantly follows his popular movie star friend to a tiny Texas town where the movie is to be filmed. Never in his life has he seen such podunk a place. Though tempted to chuck the whole thing and return home, something about the small town and it’s overly-friendly people pulls at him—and then there’s the beautiful and mysterious female horse whisperer who drew his attention from the first moment he saw her.
Lauren fights her attraction to Nate, remembering what happened with her last relationship. His high-maintenance friend, Justin, is a loose cannon, and Lauren has her doubts this venture will succeed. But it has to. So many people have their time and money invested. Lauren continues to fight the ghosts of her past, as her heart begins to thaw toward Nate. Has this Texas cowgirl met her match in a California dude comfortable in baggy shorts and flipflops?
Word Gets Around is a hoot! Snappy, sassy dialogue and unique characters that tug at your heart make this story come alive. Tension-filled Californian movie people meet down-to-earth, hospitable small-town Texans in this fun book about two wounded people who find comfort with each other during preparations to impress a big-wig movie financier. The secondary characters in this book are fabulous and will keep you laughing as they continually stick their noses in other people’s business and push Nate and Lauren together.
Lisa Wingate is well-known for her homey secular fiction, but this is the first I’ve read of her Christian line. She does a great job of bringing in the faith element that Christian readers expect, and yet does it in a gentle way that any reader could accept. Word Gets Around is a delight to read and will keep you up nights because you won’t want to put it down.
