The Reliance by M.L. Tyndall
"A rousing plot filled with adventure, heinous pirates, God's awesome power, and exciting chapter hooks."
Lady Charlisse Hyde loves being married to reformed pirate, Captain Merrick. She sails with Merrick while he works as a privateer, trying to rid the Caribbean of thieving pirates. But one night, disaster strikes. Charlisse is kidnapped by Merrick’s vile enemy, Captain Kent Carlton. A horrendous explosion staged by the pirate leaves Merrick believing his beloved wife is dead.
Grieving and in unbelievable emotional pain, Merrick quickly turns his back on God. He returns to his old ways of drinking and pirating, though he knows in his heart it’s wrong. Only rum will deaden the pain of losing his wife, and only partnering with Captain Collier, an evil pirate, can help Merrick find the man responsible for Charlisse’s death so he can get revenge.
Though all seems lost, Charlisse keeps her hopes up and relies on her faith for comfort in her prison on Carlton’s ship. She knows God will send Merrick to rescue her. But when Merrick doesn’t come and she learns the depth of his downfall, anger surges, and she is certain their marriage is over. Will God redeem a man who loses hope in his darkest moment? Can Charlisse and Merrick be reunited and their marriage restored?
The Reliance is the second book in M.L. Tyndall’s Legacy of the King’s Pirates series and the fast-paced sequel to the awesome book, The Redemption. All I can say is, “More please!”
I’m not a big fan of sequels that continue a story with the same hero and heroine. Generally they don’t live up to the first book, but The Reliance does—and then some. A rousing plot filled with adventure, heinous pirates, God’s awesome power, and exciting chapter hooks will have you quickly turning the pages. The Reliance is a book for people who love adventure and edgy, but clean, stories. This one pushes the limits, but also shows how God can work in dire situations and how He blesses someone who trusts Him in all things.
Charlisse is a heroine to admire. Though just a sprite, she boldly stands face to face with smelly, vile pirates and makes them yield to her wishes. She takes command of her husband’s ship after his crew absconded with it and sets out to find her husband and rescue another lady in distress.
I could say a lot more but don’t want to give away too much. I’m ready to read the next book in M.L. Tyndall’s exciting series and will eagerly be looking forward to it.
