The Never Say Diet Personal Fitness Trainer
"The practical applications the Personal Fitness Trainer provides will definitely take you to new heights in health, fitness, and well being."
Chantel Hobbs is a personal trainer, certified spinning instructor, and motivational speaker who wrote the foundational book Never Say Diet. Oh, and she’s also a reformed overeater who has lost 200 pounds. The Never Say Diet Personal Fitness Trainer is not the Cliffs Notes version of her first book. It’s more of a companion. It’s a personal handbook, the application of her 16 week program.
Chantel gives us the spiritual motivation lacking in most weight loss programs to stay on track even on the days when we don’t feel like it. She doesn’t deny that it isn’t always fun to get up from the table before you’re stuffed. But the end results of health and energy are worth it, and she keeps our eyes on the prize with reminders like “Making excuses only buys disappointment.” and “There is no better time than now to change your life.”
This softcover book is broken down into four phases, with four weeks (chapters) in each phase - Get a Move On!, Take Charge!, Make Food Boring, and Get Strong. Each chapter begins with an appropriate and inspiring Scripture as well as a pertinent quote and breaks down the program even further into a day by day food log and exercise log. There’s a spot to record your measurements every four weeks, too. But you don’t bite off more than you can chew in any given chapter. The first four weeks you don’t even address your diet. It only requires a commitment to exercise 5 consecutive days per week, for at least 30 minutes. Building from there, we’re asked to commit to simply eating breakfast every day, and so on.
Hobbs doesn’t tell her amazing weight loss story in this book; you’ll have to get “Never Say Diet” for that. This book is about YOU. It’s Chantel being YOUR trainer, even going so far as to give you individual Stability ball exercises to build strength. She doesn’t present exercise as a punishment for all the bad things we’ve eaten and done to our bodies. It’s more of an opportunity, and it may even become fun. She addresses emotions, moods, disappointments, and teaches us to rely on God’s mercy for all we endeavor.
This diet stands out as one of the few that address the whole person–mind, body and spirit. And The Never Say Diet Personal Fitness Trainer is a four month plan that incorporates journaling, prayer, exercise, diet, and a good attitude to bring about a lifestyle change for good. The practical applications the Personal Fitness Trainer provides will definitely take you to new heights in health, fitness, and well being.
