The Inheritance by Tamera Alexander
"The characters in The Inheritance are so vividly drawn that you almost believe they are real."
A young woman hopes that a move to a new state will bring peace to her family and give them a fresh start, but will her hope be short-lived?
Moving to Copper Creek to live with her cousin means a new start for McKenna Ashford and her brother. But the rugged Colorado town is nothing like she expects, and an even greater shock is awaiting her at her cousin’s home. McKenna’s fourteen-year-old brother Robert doesn’t adjust well to the move and starts acting out. McKenna loves Robert and raised him after their mother died giving birth to him and their father rejected him, but she doesn’t know how to handle the belligerent youth he’s become.
U.S. Marshal Wyatt Caradon is attracted to McKenna—and it’s been a long time since a woman snagged his attention like she has. He also recognizes trouble when he meets her brother. He’s spent his adult life hunting men on the wrong side of the law, and that’s where Robert is headed if he doesn’t change his ways soon.
McKenna likes the marshal but doesn’t want a man telling her what to do. She appreciates his help with Robert and other problems, but she has a hard time opening her heart and trusting him. When her life begins tumbling out of control, McKenna prays for God’s help, but He doesn’t seem to be answering. She soon finds herself close to losing everything that she’s work so hard to attain, including her brother and her new home. Will God be there in her darkest hour? Can she lower her defenses and allow Wyatt to touch her heart?
I thoroughly enjoyed The Inheritance and believe it’s my favorite of Tamara Alexander’s books. McKenna’s problems were so realistic that any parent could relate to the issues she faces in raising a troubled teenager. She’s a feisty young woman with an unusual talent that some men find intimidating. She tries to do everything in her own power but learns that she can’t. She needs God’s help—and the aid of a particular marshal that readers are sure to love.
The characters in The Inheritance are so vividly drawn that you almost believe they are real. The book unfolds like a movie before your eyes and will pull you in from the start, keeping you engaged until the very end. The Inheritance is a fascinating story of a determined woman trying to help her brother and to fulfill a promise to a dying relative. Join McKenna on her journey, and you’ll be so glad you did.
