Heart of Stone by Jill Marie Landis
"...reminds me a lot of Francine River’s popular book, Redeeming Love... a poignant story that is certain to touch your heart and have you both smiling and crying."
Laura Foster has done everything she can to form a new life and insulate herself from the past. She’s a respected widow with a boardinghouse that caters to women and families. But she keeps looking over her shoulder, fearing someone from her past could step into her new life and destroy her perfectly constructed world. When the local reverend, Brand McCormick, makes it known that he’s interested in her, she does all she can to dissuade him. If the truth came out, it could destroy them both.
Brand never thought he could love another woman, but everything about Laura calls out to him. She’s lovely, good-hearted, and perfect in all ways. Even though she rebuffs him on more than one occasion, he believes she’s the woman for him. He’s hoping and praying time and persistence will wear down her objections.
But when the secrets begin to be revealed, it’s one from Brand’s past that threatens his job as pastor of Glory, Texas. And then someone from Laura’s past has her examining her options. Does she dare stay and hope for a life with Brand? Or should she flee, leaving her home and heart in Glory?
Award-winning author, Jill Marie Landis, deftly deals with a dark subject and tells the highly emotional story of a young woman with an unimaginably difficult childhood. Smart and resourceful, Laura Foster digs her way out and starts a new life, but her past is always in the shadows, taunting and threatening her. Brand is a wonderful hero, handsome, determined, and godly. But his past is almost his undoing.
Ms. Landis takes readers back to Glory, Texas, the sight of two previous books and gives us a glimpse into the lives of past heroes and heroines, while also telling Laura’s and Brand’s stories. This book deals with forgiveness, self worth, and accepting God’s unconditional love. Heart of Stone reminds me a lot of Francine River’s popular book, Redeeming Love. Jill Marie Landis is quickly becoming a favorite author. Heart of Stone is a poignant story that is certain to touch your heart and have you both smiling and crying.
