Returning to her home state of Wyoming is harder than Janna McAllister expected. She plans to renovate the lodge and some old cabins at Snow Canyon Resort, located in the beautiful Tetons, but the cabins are in far worse shape than she anticipated. Also, her stubborn, independent mother, Claire, has early Alzheimer’s, and needs to be watched. Toss in a precocious nine-year-old and two surprise lodgers that Janna’s mother forgot to mention, and Janna has her hands full. Just when she thinks she might actually make a go of things, a human body is found, partially buried near one of the cabins.
Michael Robertson, the new interim sheriff, likes the solitude of Snow Canyon Resort. He’s hoping his son will heal emotionally from a horrible accident that left him physically scarred and robbed him of a promising career. When Janna reports seeing a prowler and then a body is found on her property, Michael suspects there’s more going on than is obvious. He tries to get her to leave, but she has too much time and money invested to walk away. In his spare time, Michael keeps watch and scours the property near the resort, looking for clues to what’s happening.
When problems escalate, Michael is certain someone is trying to drive Janna off the resort. But why? The place has been abandoned for over fifteen years. Are Janna and the kids safe while he’s at work? Are teens stirring up trouble to keep their partying place in one of the cabins a secret, or is someone out to get Janna?
As Michael develops affections for Janna, his tension increases tenfold. Can he find the perpetrator before something bad happens to the people he loves?
Hard Evidence is a fast-paced suspense novel that will keep you guessing and worrying about the characters in the story. Janna is a stubborn woman, bent on making Snow Canyon Resort a success, but it seems everything is against her. She never got along with her obstinate, independent mother, and now she has to live with Claire and keep watch over her, in spite of caring for a young daughter and restoring the rustic cabins. She has all the pressure she can handle, and then a body is found on her property. Now she fears for her daughter and her lodgers.
Michael is a great hero, strong, supportive, and commanding. He delves into the mystery and works hard to figure out what is going on at the resort, all the while, watching over the people he cares about.
Hard Evidence is the first book I’ve read of Roxanne Rustand, and I found it engaging and enthralling. The tension rarely slows, and she creates characters that I cared about. There are several key suspects in this story that will keep readers guessing. Check out Hard Evidence for a fast-paced suspense with an inspiring inspirational message of trusting God in the hard times.
