Can a feisty terrier unite two lonely souls?
Martin Davis is a lonely businessman. His brother has just married and is enjoying the life of a newlywed, and Martin misses his companionship. Work doesn’t fulfill him like it used to, and coming home to an empty house is a drag. But when he decides to adopt a feisty terrier from a local shelter, he gets more than he bargained for.
Emily Ireland loves her job as a dog walker and working part-time for a local dog shelter, Time for Paws. She’s delighted to see little Nessie, a loveable Terrier, find a home, but worries that the stoic workaholic who adopted her won’t be able to handle the energetic dog or give her the love and attention she needs. Emily’s good friend married Martin Davis’s brother, and she knows all about Martin being a perfectionist with a hardnosed attitude. She soon gets a call for help, but is being around Martin Davis the best thing for her, especially since she hasn’t been able to get him out of her mind? She finally agrees to come to Martin’s home and teach him how to handle Nessie, but despite her efforts to remain unaffected, she is attracted to the handsome, lonely man.
An incident in Martin’s past makes him leery of women, and Emily’s secrets force her not to allow a man to get close to her. When they move from friendship into something more, will their pasts and vast differences destroy any hope for a future together?
Bride in Training is
a charming book about a small dog who unites two lonely people. Martin
to become a kinder, more likeable person
than he used to be. Emily is a character who tugs at your heart with her
lack of family, insecurities, and feelings of self-doubt. I enjoyed watching
these two grow and blossom, just like a rose opening up. They brought out
the best in each other and encouraged the other to be a better person
through their faith in God. Nessie is an adorable secondary character,
but doesn’t steal the show. Readers of the other two books in this
series will enjoy learning what’s happened to the characters in the
previous books, but readers new to this series won’t be lost. For
a delightful contemporary read that is sure to tug at your heartstrings,
