"...could be deemed essential if you are beginning to build your collection, adding to an established array of CDs or would like someone you know to experience the varied genres of Christian music."

It’s the one collection a year that brings you the best in Contemporary Christian music and they call it WOW. And that’s an understatement! It’s also the one CD I make sure Santa puts in my Christmas stocking. Okay, you caught me — I buy it and drop it in there myself unbeknownst to our adult children. From pop anthems to reflective ballads to God-honoring worship, WOW and Sparrow have combined for a rock solid presentation.

WOW Hits 2013 is a two-disc compilation composed of some of the biggest hits on Christian radio in 2012. At times, the hits chosen can be confusing. For instance, Casting Crowns’ “Courageous” as well as Chris Tomlin’s “I Lift My Hands” were 2011 singles. Production, marketing, and distribution for the "WOW Hits" series is handled by EMI Christian Music Group.
In a statistical breakdown, there are 15 group/band songs, 16 solo acts and 2 duets. Each song is wholeheartedly handcrafted with poignant and highly personal experiences woven in the lyrics.

Veterans like Steven Curtis Chapman, Toby Mac, Skillet, Newboys and MercyMe continue to deliver radio hits with transformational messages. Jason Castro and Mandisa, two former American Idols, join the cast of 33 artists who share their gift of music with us. WOW Hits 2013 also includes bonus tracks from up-and-coming artists like Rhett Walker Band and Luminate.

These two CDs introduce the listeners to artists they may not have heard yet or you might recognize the tune or the lyrics but you can’t place it with a name. I now appreciate the tender rendering of Laura Story in “Blessings” and the hope-filled “Hold Me” of Jamie Grace. Mikeschair, The Afters and Kari Jobe have been moved from my “I Hadn’t Heard Them” list to the “I’ll Play Their Music When I’m Driving on My Daily Commute” list.

Reviewer Favorites:
· “10,000 Reasons” - Matt Redman
· “He Said” - Group 1 Crew with Chris August
· “Busted Heart (Hold On To Me)” - For King & Country
· “Where I Belong” - Building 429

WOW Hits 2013 marks the 17th anniversary of this series. Simply put, it is a ton of music for a decent price. It could be deemed essential if you are beginning to build your collection, adding to an established array of CDs or would like someone you know to experience the varied genres of Christian music.
