Underground Sound Volume 1
"...a great introductory look into some promising artists."
In what is hoped to be as successful as the WOW Gospel Series (in the last ten years WOW has seen sales over 4.5 million) NuSpring Records has released a compilation CD of 15 unsigned Christian Rock artists and bands under the Underground Sound CD title.
The project is the work of Paul Wright III, a veteran music executive and producer. He has held A & R posts at Verity, SonyBMG, Jive and Benson and helped shape the careers of some of Gospel’s biggest artists, including one of Gospel music’s premier female vocalists, Yolanda Adams.
Sensing another great opportunity to promote a large scale movement of underground, independent artists, Paul has compiled a list, the first in a series of compilation discs, featuring the best up-and-coming Christian musicians in the country. This compilation consists of a diverse selection of musical genres. From the lush sounding Carl Cartee, to Last Year Portrait who offers a variety of sounds through the blending of rock, power pop and punk elements. Also included is Maria Long with the song “Here with Me”, written out of the experiences she has had ministering to teens. For those who enjoy the poetry found in music, “Again” by Jessica McLean is for you.
This 15 track CD comprises music from soon-to-be heard artist Paul Allen who hails from New Zealand, and in what appears to be their final bow after 10 years together, Foolish Things. Hailing from all over the United States, Underground Sound offers a great introductory look into some promising artists. As one showcased artist noted on his MySpace page (most of the artists have their own personal pages which allows for a closer look into their backgrounds, influences, etc.) Jonny Diaz stated that while he has a very clear calling for where this music industry should go, he is not above letting someone get behind him and push him further. If this first outing from Underground Sound is any indication, they seem to be headed in the right direction.
Adrian B. Martinez: "Music and Movies, Movies and Music, always the twain shall meet" is Adrian B. Martinez's motto; a displaced New Yorker living in Connecticut. A complete Movie nut, Adrian was responsible for writing movie synopsis' for Loews Movie Theater's for over 5 years. At any given time that would be a synopsis for over 25 movies in one week. Whew! Nowadays, she is a regular in the Press area for the Creation Festival and Purple Door Festival. To keep her in the lifestyle she has become accustomed, she does web-design for DelMonico Hatter in New Haven, Ct. and serves as a Supervisor for the Hartford Civic Center, also in Ct. An avid traveler, Adrian has been to Europe numerous times and can be seen criss-crossing the United States in her re-furbished 1974 Orange Volkswagen Vanagon which has allowed her to participate in her favorite past-time, meeting new people….When she does take the time to stop, she spends her time with a very handsome man that goes by the name of Zorro. He can be seen sleeping on the couch, bed, bathing in the sunlight on a window ledge or anywhere else that he deems comfortable. Zorro of course, is her cat.
