Hello by After Edmund
"This debut is sharp... The horizon for this band is very bright and Hello is just a sample of things to come."
The band formally known as Taken, now named After Edmund, has released their debut album under the current moniker entitled Hello from Slanted records. The Georgia based pop rock band created the band’s title after a beloved character from the legendary series of C.S. Lewis’s, The Chronicles of Narnia. The group describes themselves as “a bunch of goofballs, who don’t take themselves seriously”, but their first album reflects differently with powerful, engrossing performances.
Hello starts off with the rocker anthem “Thank God”, which describes the thankfulness we should have to a creator who wraps us in love. Next up is “Fighting for Your Heart”. On this track the beats set in and describe how Jesus lives for us and wants us to be with him. Other straight up rock tunes include “Tears” and “Clouds”. Other tracks are slower anthems of melody and emotion as heard in “Like a Dream” and “Stealing Away”. Changing the format musically, After Edmund, shines on the track “Go Oboe!” giving a classical mix to the collection. This debut is sharp and the lead singer isn’t afraid to say the name of Jesus in more than one track--an increasingly rare thing to hear in alternative Christian music these days.
The album’s sound is similar to many mainstream indie artists including
Coldplay, The Bravery, and The Fray, so for those listeners looking for a
Christian band that’s torn from the same cloth as some of today’s
top acts will enjoy After Edmund. The whole album itself has quite a few
tracks that are a combination of rock, indie, worship, and pop, so just about
anyone can pick it up and enjoy it.
Although they are a lesser known band, After Edmund, proves to be much more. The horizon for this band is very bright and Hello is just a sample of things to come.
