And If Our God Is For Us by Chris Tomlin

"I highly recommend this CD for soulful, sometimes upbeat, worship songs that pick the soul up and really put the focus on God."

Chris Tomlin has long been a favorite worship artist for me; his music is sometimes thoughtful and reflective, at other times upbeat and movin’ to the beat. In his new album, And If Our God Is For Us…,Chris keeps the light alive in both the tone and message of each of the songs. Incorporating strings, guitar, strong beats, etc., his music is alive and filled with worship. The CD includes eleven songs, including the following:

· Our God
· I Will Follow
· I Lift My Hands
· Majesty of Heaven
· No Chains on Me
· Lovely
· The Name of Jesus
· All To Us
· Faithful
· Jesus My Redeemer
· Awakening

In the song, "Faithful", Chris sings a duet with Christy Nockles. This song is such a worshipful melody, slow and steady with lyrics that praise God and name His attributes. Another favorite, slower melody would be "I Lift My Hands"; it’s an almost comforting type of song that praises the faithfulness of God, even in times of heartache and hurt. Chris brings the tempo up just a notch in "Lovely", which celebrates the loveliness and worthiness of God.

Of course, there are upbeat songs that are more of a rockin’ alternative flavor. iTunes compares the rhythm of this album to Coldplay, and I have to agree. At times, the acoustics and drums and tones all blend together to give that pop/alternative feel. I found myself wanting to jump around the room, dancing to the rhythms of this awesome worship CD.

I highly recommend this CD for soulful, sometimes upbeat, worship songs that pick the soul up and really put the focus on God. You can listen to excerpts of the songs on Chris Tomlin’s website. Be sure to follow @christomlin on Twitter.
